Адам рассказывает братьям о похищении сабинянок и стыдит их за то, что они не столь предприимчивы, как древние римляне. 6 братьев спускаются в город и похищают своих красавиц. Горожане преследуют их, но лавина перекрывает проход в горы. Милли возмущена поведением братьев. Она ссорится с Адамом и уходит жить в отдельную хижину. Весной Милли рожает девочку. Перевал вновь открыт, и Адам возвращается домой. Вооруженные горожане приходят забрать своих дочерей и сестер. Однако те ни за что не хотят возвращаться. Динамичная, атлетичная и юмористическая хореография Майкла Кидда – настоящее чудо ритма, энергичности, находчивого использования пространства (в частности, в хрестоматийной сцене строительства фермы). Энергия пленки «Анскоколор» придаст фильму подлинную тональность дерзкой, наглой стилизации: действие картины четко привязано к определенному месту, однако это место было почти полностью воссоздано в студийных интерьерах. Широкоэкранный формат стоило бы изобрести специально для того, чтобы уместить на экране – зачастую в одном плане – 14 жизнерадостных героев этого фильма. Мюзиклы Миннелли более содержательны, но мюзиклы Донена обладают молодостью, эластичностью, радостью жизни, и потому над ними не властно время: в них мы видим тот самый жанр, что был популярен после войны в эпоху второго расцвета Голливуда.N.B. Фильм был 1-м опытом «MGM» в широкоэкранном формате.
